Confusion over current version

I use Software Update Monitor (SUMO) to check that Windows applications are up-to-date. Recently, SUMO reports that Wireshark 3.6.7 is current, but that several bundled apps have newer releases, specifically 3.7.2.0 for Capinfos, Captype, Dumpcap, Editcap, Mergecap, Rawshark, Reordercap, Text2pcap, and TShark.

I understand that 3.7.2.0 is the Development release and am happy to remain on the Stable release. The confusion is over what would cause SUMO to detect and report the new release for bundled programs but not report a new version for Wireshark itself.

Brokenness on SUMo's part. A Wireshark release is a collection of programs, one of which happens to be named "Wireshark"; for any release from wireshark.org, all those programs have the same version number, which is the version number of the release.

Yes, that is the crux of my confusion. SUMO clearly scans the local Windows machine and collects the version number of *.exe files. From each file name, it appears to compare that version number against another version, either in their collection of files or on product web sites. If, for example,SUMO is looking at a folder that includes all of the relevant *.exe files in the development release, then it should find a wireshark.exe with the development version number and report that wireshark.exe has a newer version (as it does for all of the other *.exe files packed inside the wireshark.zip collection). If SUMO is comparing against their own unpacked wireshark.zip collection, then they should find the new wireshark.exe file. I do not see how they miss wireshark.exe

There is a support forum for the product.

Here is a previous forum post asking the same question:
"SUMo considers the latest release of wireshark as outdated sumo. ..."

Current versions are displayed on the Wireshark Downloads page.
