The confusion is over what would cause SUMO to detect and report the new release for bundled programs but not report a new version for Wireshark itself.
Brokenness on SUMo's part. A Wireshark release is a collection of programs, one of which happens to be named "Wireshark"; for any release from wireshark.org, all those programs have the same version number, which is the version number of the release.
