Hi Team,

since a couple of versions (currently using 2.4.6.0) on a Windows 7 PC I get the below error when I select Manage Interfaces to add a remote interface:

image description

Can't get list of Interfaces

Once I click on OK a couple of times it finally goes away and I can then add a remote interface. In between this Wireshark seems to freeze.

There seems to be some old Information cached somehow.

How can I get this back to normal?

THX

Steffen

Same issue here, all old external interfaces I traced once are kept in the list of remote interfaces. Evrytime I click Manage Interfaces the list is loaded. Strange feature is that Wireshark (MS windows 10, latest version 64 bits) states that "This version of Wireshark does not save remote settings"...

I uninstalled wireshark and did a fresh install, list is still stored somewhere in my profile I guess. I didn't find a way to clean this list.

Hi, i wonder if there is a configuration in wireshark which works all the way without doing 'delete recent_files job' set everytime open?

A fix has been merged to the master (currently 4.3.0) branch:
17484: rpcap-interface discovery on startup - wireshark hangs

There is no release date for 4.3 on the Roadmap.
If you would like to test, grab a 4.3.0rc0 build from the development builds or download the source and build locally.

I've had this issue too, if you go to the "Personal Configuration" directory (double-click on the link in the Help | About Wireshark | Folders dialog). There delete "recent" and "recent_common" files and this will stop the error message coming up everytime you launch remote interfaces. I've had to do this everytime after I use Wireshark. Sorry if this effects anything else, I've not tested it thoroughly but it works for my needs.

Thanks. This was super annoying.

No need to delete "recent". Don't have to delete "recent_common" either, just edit that one. Can find this line and delete the remote entry lines below it, from any text editor:

## Recent remote hosts, cannot be altered through command line

As long as Wireshark was closed when you saved the change, next time you open wireshark and click manage interfaces there will be no more error. The rest of your recent stuff will still be available, except for remote hosts error.
