what is padding?

Im trying to decode udp packets as rtp, and in the ed137 section there is a space for "padding" and it says padding:0800. What is padding? im looking through the code and trying to figure out what the padding is and why it's used

Padding often refers to the number of bits or bytes added to make up an even number of bits or bytes normally set to zero.
