My issue was preferences not set correctly. What AntexMv meant to say was the option for packet diagram view is greyed out on the view menu by default as the other three options are shown. Awesome work on this.

Have you set one of the 3 layout panes to display the packet diagram using preferences, Edit -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Layout?
