Grandstream tell me they use wireshark to open the packet capture files made by theri Voip products such as the GXP1620 phone i have. However when I try to open the file wireshark says it is not in a format that it recognises. Also the documentation does not mention grandstream or .tar files. How do I open these packet capture files with wireshark? Thnaks Gordon Webb

It's likely that the .tar file is an archive of multiple capture files. You need a utility that will unpack the archive into the separate files. Depending on your OS, this may be built in. Windows doesn't have a built-in utility, but 7-zip will handle these files and many more archive formats as well.

Hi grahamb Perfect - thanks for that - i extracted the file and wireshark opened it. Sorry I did not know that.tar is an encapsulation format. Thanks again Gordon Webb
