Stuck on startup can't see/use interfaces

I just downloaded the latest Wireshark on a computer that never had it before. I start it, and here's all I see in the Welcome to Wireshark window (I really would have liked to show you the screenshot, but this silly forum won't let me upload a file until I have 60 points! Yes, how does this work for newbies and screenshots??)

Adapter for loopback traffic capture USBPcap1 USBPcap2

Trying either of the USBPcap interfaces I get errors: "Data written to the pipe is neither in a supported pcap format nor in pcapng format." And subsequently: "Error by extcap pipe: ... Unknown option -- extcap-capture-filter"

I don't know what would be wrong with these pcap things, I only installed exactly what I was led to install by the Wireshark installer.

But to begin with, where are my basic ethernet interfaces?? My system is: Windows 10 Wireshark 3.2.2
