what filter would display just dns or icmp traffic from 8.8.8.8

If you really only want to see answers, you could use:

 (icmp or dns) and ip.src==8.8.8.8

If you want both requests and answers, it would be:

 (icmp or dns) and ip.addr==8.8.8.8
