My wifi router only supports 802.11n, my device supports 802.11ac. If the router and device support two different radio types, will Wireshark still capture traffic from the device that supports 802.11ac?
So, since your device almost certainly supports 802.11n as well as 802.11ac (and may also support some older Wi-Fi standards) - if it talks to your router, it obviously MUST support 802.11n, as the router doesn't support 802.11ac! - it will be able to capture traffic to and from the router.

Do you really mean, as suggested by the title of the question, that your device supports 11ac but doesn't support 11n? That seems unlikely - as far as I know, most Wi-Fi-capable hardware supports all older PHYs that use frequency bands that the hardware supports, so 11ac devices also support 11n, for example.
