Forum,

Thanks for taking my question. I have captured data from an EPC session on a Cisco switch and have imported it into Wireshark. I am troubleshooting a users connection to a jump host. I was able to capture data yesterday with the appropriate filter set, and i do have a "Connection Reset" in my expert info. The frame number of the Connection reset has the end of a vertical left bracket that spans the first packet captured in the trace, and the bracket runs all the way down the left side of the Packet List pane until it ends at the exact frame where the TCP Connection reset (RST) was issued. Can someone tell me what the left bracket is indicative of? Thank you! KMNRuser

If you refer to the Wireshark User Guide in section 3.18. The "Packet List" Pane, you will find Table 3.16. Related packet symbols, which describes all the icons you might see on the left side of the packet list pane, including the left bracket symbol. For convenience, here is a copy of the table:

image description First packet in a conversation.

image description Part of the selected conversation.

image description Not part of the selected conversation.

image description Last packet in a conversation.

image description Request.

image description Response.

image description The selected packet acknowledges this packet.

image description The selected packet is a duplicate acknowledgement of this packet.

image description The selected packet is related to this packet in some other way, e.g., as part of reassembly.
