I have a wireless camera on my model train layout, that streams video up to a server. The iOS application on my phone, connect to the server to download the stream.

I’m not getting any help from the manufacturer about how to connect to this server for downloading the stream to my own software.

That being said, I was trying to use wire shark to capture packets from the iOS app, to see what is a needed.

Here are instructions on how to install the application, and connect to my wireless camera. http://atc.lovethosetrains.com/model_...

If someone could please help me capture of the packets, so I can obtain the information needed to stream this video from another application

If you have a Mac running a sufficiently recent version of macOS (I don't know when "remote virtual interfaces" were added), you can connect your iOS device to the Mac over USB and then set up a "remote virtual interface" and capture on that interface using tcpdump or Wireshark/TShark/dumpcap. See the "Set Up iOS Packet Tracing" section of Apple's "Recording a Packet Trace" article.

You have a few options, depending on the details of your situation. Capture on the iOS device is out of the question, it's not made possible. So you're down to either capture on the Wifi link between App and WiFi router, or in the WiFi router itself. WiFI capture can be tricky, so if your WiFi router supports capture that would help. OTOH, it is to be expected that the communication between the App and the Server is encrypted, so even if you can capture it there's no guaranteed you can make us of it without the encryption keys.

I have one Gateway router, it is a Asus, RT-AX86U, running third-party firmware from Mrrlin. Normally this gateway router does not have any wireless activated, but rather I have for access points tethered from it.

These access points are all asus RT-ac86u routers. No mesh

So I have tried to capture the packets on a desktop computer That is connected to the LAN. while my iPhone is connected to an SS ID that is newly opened up on the gateway router.

Needless to say I didn’t have any luck.

I am not familiar with running wire shark on the router itself. But I do have several Scripps running
