Would Like To See Kid's Email/Email Password on Home WiFi

asked 2018-03-23 14:14:32 +0000

Would like to be able to see if there is anything out of the ordinary going on with email that is going over my home network. Son uses an iPhone and Outlook app for email.

Was wondering if there was a way with Wireshark to see the context of the emails or the username/password being used to log in to the Outlook app?

Thanks!

The email is likely to be encrypted so capturing it over the air won't do you any good. The phone may not even be using the wifi, instead using the cell network.

It's definitely using WiFi, I'm using opendns to capture the domains that are being visited and outlook.356, live.com, microsoft.com are very prevalent in the domains that are being visited over the home network.

Presumably you mean outlook.365, check the traffic to there, it's likely to be TLS, aka encrypted.

Yes. Forgive me, if it's encrypted, does that mean it's a no go on getting the plain text (decrypt it)?

yes, that's exactly what it means. Otherwise the encryption would be pointless.

To capture what your son is doing you would need to use something like pumpkin pi. Search youtube on how to set it up
