I just installed Wireshark on Ubuntu 16.4 and I getting a permisons error. How can I correct that? I should have checked the box that allowed non-priivileged users to use the app.

Hi:

I ran the commands below and I am now able to load and examine a previously created tcpdump file but I cannot capture within in the program. The error message I receive when I start the program now is: couldn't run /usr/bin/dumpcap in child process. Permission denied.

Is there another modification required?

Thanks!

you can change the permissions by doing:

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure wireshark-common
$ sudo usermod -a -G wireshark $USER`
