Wireshark generally has 3 active "releases" as shown below:
- Stable - currently 4.2.6, this is the most stable version for general use
- Old stable - currently 4.0.16, kept around for those that have specific requirements and can't upgrade to stable
- Development - currently 4.3.0, this is where new features are implemented, for this that are happy living on the bleeding edge.
