If you refer to the Wireshark User Guide in section 3.18. The "Packet List" Pane, you will find Table 3.16. Related packet symbols, which describes all the icons you might see on the left side of the packet list pane, including the left bracket symbol. For convenience, here is a copy of the table:

Part of the selected conversation.
Not part of the selected conversation.

Response.
The selected packet acknowledges this packet.
The selected packet is a duplicate acknowledgement of this packet.
