Q&A Site search

2

Hi,

I wonder, why I do see 0 (zero) results when searching the forum questions.

Example: Try to search for the string 'capture' and the radio-box 'questions' is selected.
Result: 0 questions matching 'capture'

However, there are clearly questions with that string in the question title and the content.

Is it me, or is it the forum software?

Secondly, I suggest to change the background color of the search field. At least in Internet Explorer and Firefox there is almost no contrast between the search field and the surrounding area. However, this is only true when the dispay of my laptop (which I use most of the time), is in it's default position/angle. If I change the angle, the contrast gets better.

During my first few attempts I clicked on the search button and expected a new page to come up with the search options. It took a while until I realized, that there is actually a search field.

Maybe it's just my stupidity, maybe other users have the same problem !??!

Regards
Kurt

Out of curiosity, what does the "White saturation" page at http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ look like on your monitor?

The search issue should be fixed now. I also added a dark gray border around the main search box.

Great. Search works and the search box looks pretty good on my laptop.

Thanks a lot!

It's a problem with OSQA, and it seems only site admins can do something about it:

An end-user workaround is to use Google site search. For example, to search for "capture", enter the following as a search query (at google.com):

site:ask.wireshark.org capture

strange, am I the first one to 'complain' about this? Who's the site admin?

You might be the first to publicly "complain" about it, but I've cursed it myself in private ;)

I believe the site admin would be @Gerald Combs

as far as I can see, there is no way to send a PM in this Q&A system, so I hope the right will people read this question and are willing to invest some time in fixing this behaviour :-))

BTW: I just realized, that awarding points, means giving away your own karma points. That's not really described in the FAQ, not even in the user guide of OSQA (maybe I overlooked it) ;-))

You could always submit a bug report at http://bugs.wireshark.org (choose Web sites from the Products list, and then ask.wireshark.org from the Component list).

done. Bug 7223.

Kurt, you were not the first to complain. See my question from March 25, 2011.

It seems the problem mentioned in bug 7223 (search results of 'help please' versus 'please help') is still there.
