Capturing traffic between smartphone and Wi-Fi camera

Hi,

That is perhaps a generic question but I would appreciate an answer.

I have a device, wi-fi camera that acts as Access Point. The control over the device is maintained over android app. I discovered that this app is communicating with the device with simple http requests. I did that by emulating android on my computer and then capturing packets with wireshark. What I would like to do however is to avoid emulating android since it causes problems. So this is how I would like this to work

My smartphone connects to the computer via wifi and then all of its connections are transferred to the wifi camera (something dmz like). Meanwhile I caputre all the traffic between smartphone and camera.

I have 2 external wifi cards, one could work as AP for smartphone and the other as client to the camera's AP. But how should I set this up?

Thanks,

CC

What is the operating system of your computer? Can you setup your smartphone to connect via usb tethering ? Can your cam itself configure as client, not ap?

Hi llaakkss999 CC,

thank you for your excellent question I have alike wifi camera and free Android application (downloaded from Google Play) used for connecting to camera to watch live vide broadcasted.

I would like this wifi camera to broacast to a number of Android devices ( smartphone, tablet ..) at the same time or to let more users to watch live video stream broadcasted by this wifi camera as exactly as DVB-T signal is broadcasted to many DVB-T receivers, to make video stream open and public (not using httpd server and http protocol to access video in web browser).

This video camera must be standard and API commands sent to camera must be standard since Android app is generic.

Please let me know your opinion

@darius

This is a Q&A site, not a forum, please post your new question as a question in its own right.

@grahamb

in theory you are right but in practice look at figures

1582 questions asked as total 1316 questions never answered

so a general interest among experts to answer the questions already asked is low

Not sure if comments are shared among those following a question since they don't make an answer in result.

Generally interest in asking Qs on the internet to get a prompt As is low recently

Look at 100+ forums at stackoverflow resulting in 10% of answers

In San Francisco at Coffee&Power service I was able to offer pocket money to make ppl to show interest in answering my question .
