How do I add directory to path for MacOS 10.15 Catalina?

How do I add directory to path for MacOS 10.15 Catalina? Following along Wireshark 101 by Laura Chappell for a Network Forensics class, and in the foot notes it says to Google "add directory to path for <operating system="">", which I did, but couldn't find a definitive answer. I also found in the Applications folder a .pkg install file to "Add Wireshark to the system path.pkg" and that seemed to add a directory in the "About Wireshark/Folders" section in the Application but in does not have a 'Location'. The Chapter 8 is about using command line to run editcap, mergecap, and tshark command lines.

What script do I have to run in Terminal to assign the directory a path? Will creating the directory path in Terminal give access to the 'command-line tools'? Are these command line tools OS exclusive to Windows and, if so, what are the Mac OS equivalent (if any)?

No, it's all right there in the application bundle. Did you logout and login again?

Do you mean "I looked a that section of Applicaton > Help before I ran 'Add Wireshark to the system path' and it wasn't there, and then I ran 'Add Wireshark to the system path', restarted Wireshark, and looked at the section again, and now it was there"? If so, what did the Name column say? If not, perhaps it didn't add anything.

but in does not have a 'Location'

I.e. the "Name" column wasn't blank, but the "Location" column was? If so, again, what did the "Name" column say?
