High CPU Usage in 4.4.x
I was running version 4.4.5, and had about a dozen captures open. I noticed that everything was extremely slow, so I looked in task manager and saw that each Wireshark process was consuming anywhere from 6 to 10% CPU. None of the captures were very large, perhaps 100 - 200 packets. But just sitting there they were all consuming that much CPU. I tried downgrading to 4.4.4, 4.4.3, 4.4.2, 4.4.1, and they all were using that much CPU. So I downgraded to 4.2.11, the previous listed stable version. It's sitting at 0% for most, 0.1% for a couple. Nowhere near the CPU utilization as 4.4.x. Why would Wireshark use so much CPU for a static small capture just open?
I am running Windows 11 on an HP Elitebook with an 8th gen i5 and 16 GB RAM.
So these weren't live captures taking place while Wireshark was running, they were capture files you had opened?
Correct, just capture files.
Does it happen if you have only one capture file open, so that there's only one instance of Wireshark running?
With one capture file open, the Wireshark process uses approximately 10% CPU.
Is this a network mounted file?
