I need to retrieve the contents of a pdf file on ftp in a pcap that I received from a recruiter using this software.

See 5.7.7. The “Export Objects” Dialog Box in the Wireshark User’s Guide.

Can also be done from the command line using tshark.
See the --export-objects <protocol>,<destdir> option.
