Updated to 4.2.6 and lost various file outputs

asked 2024-07-22 18:09:53 +0000

I recently updated to the newest version 4.2.6 and when i try to export a capture to a different file type IE. pcap, the only option i have is pcapng. I have tried to downgrade my wireshark to see if i could just use and older version until i could find a fix, but that doesn't seem to work either. One of my co-workers uninstalled his wireshark and reinstalled (same as i have) and that seemed to solve his issue. But i have tried doing that multiple times making sure everything was full unistalled and still no dice.

And help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The types of formats to which you can export packets from a file, or in which you can save a file, depends on the input file. For example, if the packets you're exporting or the file you're saving have more than one link-layer type, it's inherently impossible to write them to a pcap file, as pcap files have only one, per-file, link-layer type.

I have tried to downgrade my wireshark to see if i could just use and older version until i could find a fix, but that doesn't seem to work either.

If you mean that you tried an older version and it also wouldn't support saving in pcap format, that's probably because what you're trying to save has, for example, more than one link-layer type.
