I just updated my wireshark version in windows 10 to the latest and am now getting a pair of popup error messages when I launch wireshark, which I've never seen before. They don't appear to affect my ability to capture udp packets, but I'd like to get rid of the error messages after learning what they mean.

Complete error message is:

The procedure entry point ws_assert_failed could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files\Wireshark\extcap\udpdump.exe.

I only have one file in this folder, it's udpdump.exe.

So... What does this error mean and why am I now getting it and how do I get rid of it?

What is the new version (wireshark -v or Help->About Wireshark:Wireshark) and what was the version that was working without the warning.

Hi Chuck, new version is 4.0.1 (v4.0.1-0-ge9f3970b1527). I don't recall the version I had before, maybe 3.6 or something like that.

Oddly, just now when I launched wireshark to get the version, I am no longer getting the popup error. I launched several times, and still no error. So something behind the scenes fixed itself.

Do I dare mark this question as solved due to your remote good karma?
