I recently installed wireshark on my Dell Inspiron, running Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa base: Ubuntu 20.04 focal.

When I do ls command of /usr/bin directory with show all including hidden binaries, dumpcap is no where to be found.

Your help greatly appreciated.

What happens when you run the commands

ls -ld /usr/bin

and

ls -l /usr/bin/dumpcap

You failed to mention _how_ you installed Wireshark. From a package repository (which?), self build or otherwise?

Thanks, Guy Harris and Jaap {;>)

I changed the permission using chmod comand to 777, and it showed up in ls.

Changed the permission of what? /usr/bin or /usr/bin/dumpcap? The permissions of dumpcap shouldn't make any difference on whether it shows up in ls, and any UN*X system that doesn't give full read and execute permission for user, group, and other to /usr/bin is broken.

And what were the permissions before you changed them?
