I often launch Wireshark by opening a pcap file. Sometimes it offers to upgrade. But it is a catch 22. If I say yes, it discovers a copy of Wireshark is running and requires me to close it, but it won't autoclose, because it thinks I have unsaved data. If I close it, that also closes the upgrade process, and I'm left with nothing. If I then just start Wireshark, it no longer offers to upgrade, so I must go to help and then the download link and download from the web site. At that point I must close Wireshark, but at least the upgrade process is not attached to the copy of Wireshark I'm closing.

Just use it as a reminder. Nothing beyond that. I always regard updating a machine as a task I need to do deliberatly. Not just because the tool detects an update. But that is just my take on things.

This site is for asking questions about using Wireshark.

Bugs and requests for improvement should be posted as issues on the Wireshark issues list. Please file an issue for this there.
