By mentioning npcap you imply you're running Wireshark on Windows but all other aspects of what you're trying to do are unclear.

Please post the contents of the about dialog (Help -> About Wireshark -> Wireshark tab) and what interface you're trying to capture on.

Not sure if it's related, but you're running an older version of npcap (1.3.1), you could try downloading the latest from their website and installing that.

that is the version of npcap that it installs as part of 3.4.7 installation and as on work machine am not allowed to upgrade that. Anyone have any ideas what issue is here?

Can dumpcap (the part of Wireshark that communicates with npcap) list the interfaces? Using a command prompt try the following:

"C:\Program Files\Wireshark\dumpcap.exe" -D

Thanks for help grahamb. I have managed to get to work by uninstalling NPCAP and then reinstalling wireshark.
