New Wireshark version 3.4.6 hangs on MacBook with Big Sur

asked 2021-06-22 23:09:37 +0000

Hi,

I installed 3.4.6 today on my macbook which is running OSX 11.1. Everytime I try to browse to open a pcap file, even before I select the file, I get the spinning ball which never stops. Rebooted and same results. I had to downgrade to 3.4.5.

Anyone else seeing this?

thanks for all your hard work on this great tool.

What gets reported if, when this happens, you open up Activity Monitor (it's in Utilities, under Applications), sort by process name, find Wireshark in the process list, select it, and from the "3 dots in a circle" widget in the bar at the top of the Activity Monitor window, select "Sample Process"? It should pop up a "Sample of Wireshark" window when it finishes; what's in the "Call graph" section near the top? There may be a lot of text in that section.
