How to retrieve an pdf file from a FTP connection if it's in binary instead of ASCII format?

How do you expect to extract a PDF file from a TLS encrypted connection? Just extremely curious how you would do this?
I've looked into all lines from PASV to 'Transfer complete but unable to find any file...
This is our homework for cybersecurity course....
It's not TLS encrypted.
I was thinking more along the lines of what does PASV do? Hint: FTP has both control and data connections.
The PASV command tells the server to enter a passive FTP session rather than Active. This allows users behind routers/firewalls to connect over FTP when they might not be able to connect over an Active (PORT) FTP session. PASV mode has the server tell the client where to connect the data port on the server
