Is there an implementation of Wireshark as a VMware Hypervisor service?
I have just finished taking a course on VMware NSX. My company is betting big on virtualizing our own environment and creating a private cloud to migrate our clients into. It would be very useful to be able to capture and analyze traffic within the VMware Hypervisor, as all data going in, out or through a VMware cluster goes through the Hypervisor.
So do you require that the Wireshark GUI run within the hypervisor, or would it be sufficient if you could capture traffic from within the hypervisor, with analysis possibly done elsewhere?
Wouldn't you be able to capture hypervisor traffic if you enable promiscuous mode of the management ports in your NSX?
Guy, it doesn't need to run within the hypervisor itself as long as the data I'm capturing is what's going through the hypervisor.
net_tech, I'll check on that.
So here's the deal - I'm going to a "Troubleshooting NSX" class all next week. I'm going to work on the instructor to get more information about how this might work and then get back to you all here.
