I am trying to capture data from a monitor system that is connected via my network. It is usually wifi-connected to my router, but If wifi is lost it will revert to wired ethernet. Can I capture and decode this data using Wireshark so that I can begin interpreting it?
Yes, you can capture the data if your capture setup allows you to do so, and you can decode the data if Wireshark supports dissection of the captured data, which it will in many cases, but not all, depending upon the traffic you're capturing. To be clear, Wireshark supports dissection of IP and TCP, but it may or may not support dissection of the TCP payload.
