Which adapter for Kali Linux 2020.2?

asked 2020-06-18 22:00:33 +0000

Hello everyone I need help, I am running Kali Linux 2020.2 amd64 in VirtualBox 6.1.10 (my main OS is Windows 10 x64) and I have been looking a lot for a WiFi adapter that supports packet sniffing, packet injection, and monitor mode. But I can´t decide which one is the most compatible for my VM.

I found these two but I don´t know if they are ok,

Inside a VM, I would not recommend any USB WiFI adapter as performance is less than optimal. Note the second one is 2.4GHz only.

So which one out there should I get?

I would not suggest getting any of them if this is the capture plan. A revised plan: boot the PC into Kali on a USB drive so it is native, and then a RTL8812/8814 or mt7612 chipset based adapter will do OK. Ultimately, it depends on what you need to do but these will pick up traffic in a relatively reliable manner for their capability. Unless you know the exact specifications of the traffic you want to collect, there is no way to know which adapter is the right one for you. For instance, if you want to pick up WiFi6/11ax traffic, I don't know of any USB adapter that will work.
