Problems post install with npcap killing network connection

I just remotely installed Wireshark on a 2008R2 Windows server; the npcap install didn't work, so I installed that manually. But immediately after installation of npcap-0.9990 I lost my connection to the computer. Logging in directly to the computer, I could see the LAN connection showed the network was disconnected or unplugged. I tried a number of things to resolve it which didn't work, but as soon as I uninstalled npcap adapter, it started working (I literally watched the ping response in real time).

However, now I still can't ping or connect to this computer via a VPN connection. Connecting via VPN is fine, but ping doesn't go through, and therefore nothing else, like SMB etc. This was working perfectly before Wireshark / npcap install.

This is probably an issue with Npcap, as a result of it installing its own driver into the Windows networking stack (which is a requirement for packet capture).

It's been reported on the Npcap issues list and perhaps also on the Nmap issues list (Npcap only recently got its own issues list; the Nmap list was used before that, but new Npcap issues should be reported on the Npcap list, not on the Nmap list).

File your report there, unless you find a report that's close enough that it's probably the same issue - in which case you should probably still give your details, so the Npcap developers have as much information as possible to try to diagnose this.

Thanks Guy. Added to the npcap issues thread here: https://github.com/nmap/npcap/issues/105
