I am having a problem with "Save file as". I capture packets, stop shark, click on "save file as', name the file, click on save, and sharks says "file cannot be found!". Check pic.! ">60 points required to upload files", Sorry no pic, not enough points. This has just started, I used to be able to save, now its not working. If I have to uninstall & reinstall, where can I can find the "Capture Filter Options File"? UPDATE* I uninstall and reinstalled. no change, I'll do it again, this time will clear registry. Cleaned registry. Wireshark will not save.

Wireshark and OS version?

Are you saving to a directory you have write permissions in?

Wireshark folder in documents. I have my user protector disabled. I uninstalled 1.2.4 and reinstalled 3.0.3 and wireshark still would not save! I was saving just fine, and this started happening.

Windows10 Also when I create a file, such as "testing.pcap" in the wireshark folder. Then try and save to it, wireshark say file already exist, try another name. This sucks! Wireshark will not save anymore!!

And you can definitely create other files in the target directory?

Can you try saving the file without an extension?

Can you confirm you are using the File menu option "Save As...", because there is no "save file as"?

"Save As", and I cannot save a file, with or without an extension. I just did a system restore hoping that would fix it, nope!

That 60 point requirement, sucks too, be nice to upload screen shots of this, that would answer a lot of questions for you all. I'm usually pretty good at fixing things like this, but I am at a loss! I have no idea what is wrong!

And thanks for helping me!!!!

That pic is what happens when I try and save as.

When I name the file, it says "file not found"??????

When I try and save it to a file, it says that file already exist try another name, its a circle of getting nowhere!

But I believe the solution will be soon, I hope!

I ran troubleshooter for my ethernet device and got this,

"Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (DNS server). The computer or service you are trying to reach might be temporarily unavailable"

I thought that my ethernet drivers could be causing this so

I reset my ethernet device, uninstall and reinstall wireshark, still will not save???

I notice, when I start wireshark I am missing the small box showing status of capture. Is that an option I do not have enabled??

I have my user protector disabled.

You need to disable Controlled Folder Access.

See this answer to a question about the same error when trying to save a document in Wordpad.
