Hello IsMILAN

Why exactly do you think that the installer is responsible for the crash? Crashes can also be caused by all types of errors. This includes, but is not limited to old drivers and faulty hardware.

Some extra information would be helpful:

  • What version / patch level of Windows are you using?
  • Are you using 32 or 64 bit?
  • Which version of Wireshark did you download? (Release/Build number plus 32 or 64 bit)
  • Do you use WinPcap or NPCap? If so, which version did you install?
  • Did you install the optional USBPcap?
  • Did you install other software which relies on a version of WinPCap / NPCap / USBcap, but with a conflicting version number?
  • Do you also experience the crashes after installing Wireshark on a clean (i. e. freshly reinstalled) computer?
  • Where did you download Wireshark? I have encountered one shady "shareware" site that hosts infected versions of Wireshark.

After a blue screen Windows leaves a lot of diagnostic information in the file C:\Windows\memory.dmp, a.k.a. the dump file. I am sure that you can find a web site that helps in the analysis of the dump file.

Also, please note that a few malware families react allergic to Wireshark. So please make sure, that your computer is free of malware.

Hint: I had crashes on my computer caused by an early version of USBPcap.

Good luck Eddi

Please note that uploading your dump file to a public web site can expose a lot of sensitive information. Depending on the dump style this can include your password.

Also, please note that a few malware families react allergic to Wireshark. So please make sure, that your computer is free of malware.
